Utilizing the 5.8 GHz, 2.4 GHz and 900 MHz frequencies, ChiliTech transmits data
to and from our customers using Alvarion wireless equipment. It brings
high-speed Internet access to our customers using a proprietary protocol based
on the 802.11 standard. Each install involves two radios and two antennas. One
antenna and one radio will be placed at the customer’s site. The radio will
deliver an ethernet hand off to the customer inside their building.
ChiliTech wireless delivers download speeds comparable to cable modems. However,
upload speeds are much faster with wireless. Cable modems are usually capped at
128kbs upload speed. Wireless upload speeds are able to reach speeds equal to
their download speeds. Currently the theoretical maximum transfer speed of a
wireless unit is 1.8 Mbs (up and down). Most customers see at least 512kbps.
ChiliTech also has been diligent in making sure the downtimes are minimal and
that any issues are fixed quickly. In addition, ChiliTech can offer
dial-up as a backup for the customer if the wireless service would ever be down
at a time that would be inconvenient for the customer. Cable cannot offer a
backup to their service.
To determine if ChiliTech wireless is available at your location, we first must
do a site survey. During this process, we dispatch a technician to
your location who performs a series of tests to ensure that you will receive a
signal sufficiently strong to receive our service. After this site survey, we
schedule an installation with you. Installation time usually takes between 2
and 8 hours, depending on your needs and the nature of your site. During
installation, and with appropriate permission from the property owner of
your location, we attach a small antenna to your home or building, run a length
of coaxial cable from the antenna into your building, and attach it to our
wireless radio. Finally, from our radio, we connect your computer or broadband
router with an ethernet cable.
